Diving Virtual Talent Search
August 6, 2021Technical, taxing, thrilling – the sport of diving combines strength, flexibility, agility and composure to create one of the most explosive and exciting sports on the Olympic programme.
Great Britain’s performances at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games showed how much of a stronghold the UK is for diving, and Swim England, Scottish Swimming and British Diving are on the lookout for the next generation of diving talent.
As a result of the pandemic, Talent ID has been unable to happen in the usual way. The scheme is therefore being moved online and will take place virtually for the 2021-22 season. This will allow the bodies involved to identify new and exciting talent in order to widen the pool of up-and-coming divers in the UK.
Check out the video below for a message from Olympic Champion Tom Daley.
Talent ID is how many of the ‘greats’ started out, including Olympic champion Tom Daley who began diving in 2001 after being ID’d through his local club.
He is encouraging all young people to put themselves forward and says:
“Why not try out for this virtual talent ID scheme where maybe you could be representing Team GB in LA 2028 or Brisbane ’32 – with a lot of hard work you could get there.
“You’ll never know if you don’t try out so sign up to the virtual talent ID, it’s all done online you can do it from home and maybe you’ll be part of Team GB in the very near future.
Talent Identification is a crucial recruitment tool for diving due to it being an early specialisation sport. As such, Swim England is calling upon anyone who may have an interest in the sport to get involved and see if they could become the next British Olympic champion.
Following sign-up you will be sent a link with videos of skills to try at home. You can then submit these videos to be part of our talent search. You will also be sent details of how to sign up for a free Try Diving session.
Sign-up closes at midnight on 10 October with video submissions closing at midnight on 17 October.
Here’s a taster of what you’ll get involved with…
