Swim England Coach Education - Opening up opportunities

Swim England are introducing some new opportunities to enable teachers and coaches who are also actively involved in Swim England affiliated clubs, to access the coach or senior coach certificate without having to complete the assistant coach or coach certificate first.

New opportunities:

The new opportunities being offered are:

  • Teacher-to-coach recognition
  • Overseas coach-to-coach recognition
  • Overseas swimming coach to senior coach recognition

Eligibility

Teacher-to-coach access route

This opportunity is available to individuals with a Swim England Level 2 Teaching Swimming Qualification (or equivalent), who are actively involved in a Swim England affiliated club, to access the Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate.Applicants must provide the following evidence to be eligible:

  • Swimming Teaching Qualification Certificate
  • Syllabus or transcript of content of the Swimming Teacher Qualification (if not Swim England)
  • Coaching CV stating coaching experience including evidence of regular coaching within the last 3 months at a Swim England affiliated club (to include the club secretary’s name and email address)
  • Be listed on the relevant Club OMS Personnel report as a Coach
  • A valid DBS and Swim England Safeguarding certificate
  • A letter of support from the club head coach or chairman
Overseas coach-to-coach access route

This opportunity is available to coaches with an overseas coaching qualification (for their sport), who are actively coaching in a Swim England affiliated club, to access the Swim England Coaching Certificate for their sport.Applicants must provide the following evidence to be eligible:

  • Overseas qualification certificate
  • Overseas qualification syllabus or transcript of content
  • Coaching CV which includes evidence of regular coaching experience overseas and in the UK within the last month at a Swim England affiliated club (to include the club secretary’s name and email address)
  • A valid DBS and Swim England Safeguarding certificate
  • Be listed on the relevant Club OMS Personnel report as a Coach
  • A letter of support from the club head coach or chairman
Overseas swimming coach to senior coach access route

This opportunity is available to senior coaches with an overseas coaching swimming qualification, who are actively coaching in a Swim England affiliated club, to access the Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate.

Applicants must provide the following evidence to be eligible:

  • Overseas qualification certificate
  • Coaching of athletes at a minimum of regional level or equivalent* in their previous inhabited country.
  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • A valid DBS and Swim England approved Safeguarding certificate.
  • Be listed on the relevant Club OMS Personnel report as a Coach
  • Coaching CV which includes evidence of regular coaching experience overseas and in the UK within the last month at a Swim England affiliated club (to include the club secretary’s name and email address)
  • Evidence of coaching for at least 10 hours per week, spanning a minimum of 5 sessions, with the same group of athletes.
  • Lead coach for a squad of 5 athletes who are competing at regional level or above.

*With the exception of a coach working solely with Master’s Swimmers, who would need to evidence working with athletes competing at national level or equivalent.

NB: Coaches with overseas qualifications who do not satisfy these criteria above and/or aren’t of the required standard following their 1st assessment, will be signposted to a Coach course.

How to Apply

Anyone wishing to apply for these opportunities must do so directly via [email protected] and confirm the route they wish to apply for.

The Coach Certification team will then provide the applicant with the relevant evidence requirements and link to the application form, where all required evidence must be submitted for approval. Once all the evidence has been received, this will be reviewed and a confirmation letter sent confirming the outcome of the application. This decision will be final, any unsuccessful applicants will be provided with guidance on their next steps.

All successful applicants will be provided with 12 months to book the relevant course; if this time lapses they will need to reapply.
