Stars head to Aberdeen for opening leg of Citi Para Swimming World Series

The stage is set in Aberdeen for the first stop of the 2024 Citi Para Swimming World Series (Inc. British Para Swimming Meet) where many of the world’s top para-swimming athletes kick off a Paralympic year with four days of high quality racing.

The competition runs from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 February where 22 countries will be represented at the Aberdeen Sports Village.

It will be the first time that the venue will host a World Series leg in front of fans – after the behind closed doors version in 2022 – and like last year’s competition in Sheffield the event will run in parallel with the British Para-Swimming Winter Meet.

The event is a key landmark for the athletes, both British and further afield, just seven months out from the 2024 Paralympic Games.

For the British athletes it will be the last chance for international competition on home soil before the British Swimming Championships in April – the key selection meet for the Games in Paris.

Great Britain have entered the largest team into the World Series event with 57 athletes hoping to make an impact in their first event of the season.

That includes the likes of Alice Tai, Ellie Challis and William Ellard who all contributed to Great Britain’s 38 medals at the Manchester 2023 World Para Swimming Championships last summer. They won 12 medals between them in Manchester and will be hoping to continue that form in Scotland.

Paralympic medallists Rebecca Redfern, Jordan Catchpole and Tully Kearney are also part of the British contingent that will be in action as they continue their preparation ahead of this summer’s Games.

A further 75 Brits will also compete across the British Para-Swimming International Winter Meet part of the programme which will see the future stars of British Para-Swimming take to the blocks.

Each event will feature a National Meet Final alongside a World Series Final, with the heats running concurrently.

Races will be conducted in the multi-classification format where the athletes’ times are converted into World Para Swimming points against their classification.
