Peaty breaks 50m breaststroke world record twice on day three
July 25, 2017Adam Peaty broke the 50m breaststroke world record twice as he made his way into the final at the World Swimming Championships 2017.
The Olympic champion is in fine form in Budapest, winning gold in the 100m breaststroke in a new Championships record time yesterday.
But he showed he has plenty more to achieve at his second Worlds, as he looks to retain his 50m crown.
Despite being slightly slow off the blocks in the heats, he powered his way through to qualify fastest for the semis with 26.10.
He came back stronger in the semis, shaving another 0.15 seconds to finish in 25.95 as he enters the finals as the fastest qualifier.
Peaty commented: “I wasn’t planning on a world record but I was on such a massive high from this morning. It was hard to ignore the fact that I did a world record and trying to get myself emotionally ready but I’ve learnt from my experiences over the past two or three years.
“I didn’t think I was going to do that. I thought I was going to go slower because I felt less energetic. But it’s all about tomorrow night.
“I just dived in, I felt good and I wasn’t that far behind after the start which is a bonus for me. I enjoyed it but obviously it’s nothing without the gold so I need to focus now, be neutral and see what we get tomorrow.”
If you blinked you might just have missed it! ?
