School swimming and inclusion
1 July 2019We help schools deliver the national curriculum for swimming and water safety through our School Swimming and Water Safety Charter.
This school-specific programme and Awards scheme is designed to help all pupils be included in swimming lessons, whatever their background or ability.
When schools deliver our school swimming programme, it means that their pupils will have the opportunity to learn essential swimming and water safety skills in an inclusive environment.
Activities and festivals designed to run alongside our school swimming Awards programme, such as Aquasplash, encourage pupils to get involved and enjoy their learning, particularly those who are nervous or have additional needs.
Inclusion 2024
Inclusion 2024 is a UK-wide project that is helping to increase participation of children with additional needs in school sport.
Most importantly, Inclusion 2024 is helping pupils of all backgrounds and abilities enjoy taking part in PE lessons with each other.

Government support
As well as the PE and Sport Premium for primary schools, which provides funds to support schools in delivering inclusive sport, the Government provides helpful guides and policy documents for organisations who work with children who have SEND and/or high needs.
The SEND code of practice: 0-25 years is particularly helpful.
