Eve Young doubles up on solo titles at National Championships

Eve Young doubled up on national solo titles at the GoCardless Swim England Artistic Swimming National Championships in Nottingham.

The Rugby Artistic Swimming Club athlete added the Free Solo to her Technical Solo crown to come away with both senior and junior gold at the Harvey Hadden Sport Complex.

The Great Britain Junior finished with an overall score of 151.2208 to finish on top spot, more than 12 points clear of Salford Synchronised Swimming Club’s Aimee Lawrence in second.

It’s a result that means Young was awarded the Helen Elkington Trophy as she improved on her second place finish from 2023 to take victory.

Her routine to the ‘plaza of execution’ showcased great presence in the water and excellent height, earning her 84.2500 for artistic impression and 66.9708 for her combined elements.

The Salford duo of Lawrence and Sophie Flemming completed the senior podium.

Lawrence’s routine scored 78.7500 for impression and 59.3354 for elements which combined to a total of 138.0854.

Flemming meanwhile took senior bronze and junior silver with her routine – which was to Gasoline by Hasley. She scored a total of 118.1521 to edge out Reading’s Francesca Pringle by less than a point.

Pringle didn’t walk away empty handed however, as she claimed junior bronze thanks to her routine score of 117.6208.

Golden glory for City of Birmingham and Aquaoaks

The Free Duet and Free Mixed Duet saw both City of Birmingham and Aquaoaks take to the top step of the podium for the first time this weekend.

For Midlands based club Birmingham, it was Alyssa Anderson and Magdelena Townsend who fired them to gold in the Free Duet.

They were the only pair to score more than 100 points for their routine which showed great control throughout.

Their total was 109.0204 which was more than 20 points ahead of the strong performing Francesca Pringle and Beatrice Askar in second position.

Reading Royals’ duo earnt both the junior and senior silver medal after being part of the club’s gold medal winning Acrobatic Routine. Pringle has also won junior bronze in both solo events this weekend.

Scoring 86.6396, their performance to a melody of songs – including the theme music of Top Gun which captured the audience and judges in Nottingham.

Six points further back was the City of Leeds duet of Rosie Barrington and Scarlet Garland with a total of 80.5258.

Opening up the competition the Leeds pair impressed the judges to secure bronze medals whilst another City of Birmingham duet won junior bronze. Amelie Knight-Markiegi and Emily Taylor scored a total of 72.1200.

The Free Mixed Duet competition saw Aquaoaks win gold courtesy of Mariella Rice and Stanley Stiff.

Their routine to a remix of ‘New York, New York’ earnt them an overall score of 61.0000. They were awarded both the senior and junior gold medals for their efforts.
