Downloadable Water Safety Posters
21/03/2023Swim England has created posters to visually display the Water Safety Code and the Swim England Water Safety Awards. The posters are available to download for free at the bottom of the page. The posters have been designed for providers to display in their facilities to help educate learners and parents.
The Water Safety Code is adopted from research that the RNLI commissioned in creating their new youth education resources in 2018. Swim England, the RLSS, RoSPA, fire and rescue services, and many others have since adopted its delivery. This is to ensure a consistent set of messages is delivered to people when learning how to be safe in, on and around the water. The headline messages were designed to be adaptable to both age and activity by using expansion messages that are age and activity appropriate.
It is important that everyone knows how to stay safe when in, on and around the water whether it be indoors or outdoors. The messages on the A3 poster and A4 posters identify the key messages everyone should remember.
The Water Safety Awards are a vital part of making a person water competent, complementing the Learn to Swim Framework, they help introduce important skills and knowledge a person needs to stay safe when in, on and around the water. The awards are aligned with the Learn to Swim Framework stages, as guidance, as to when learners should be comfortable performing some of the outcomes. However, this doesn’t mean that some outcomes in the Water Safety Awards can’t be introduced earlier (teachers should only introduce skills earlier if they know the learner has the ability).
The Water Safety Awards poster gives a visual representation of where the Awards sit in the Learn to Swim Framework to help give more context to parents who have children participating in the Learn to Swim Programme.
The Learn to Swim Team offer a workshop that increases the awareness and importance of water safety in a person’s swimming journey. Aimed at swimming teachers and programme coordinators, participants will learn how to effectively integrate and deliver the Swim England Water Safety Awards within their Learn to Swim Programme.
