Fourth World Series silver for Daley and Reid

Tom Daley and Grace Reid claimed their fourth consecutive silver medal in the fourth round of the FINA Diving World Series 2018 in Russia.

The duo registered a season’s best score of 317.70 points in the mixed 3m synchronised in Kazan but were beaten to the gold by Canada’s Jennifer Abel and Francois Imbeau-Dulac who finished on 324.96.

Daley and Reid were joint first after the first three dives and only 0.06 points behind the Canadians with one dive to go.

And although they recorded their best score with their final dive – a forward 3 1/2 somersaults in pike position – Abel and Imbeau-Dulac scored 81.60 to take top spot.

The second place ensured a clean sweep of silver medals after they finished second in Beijing, in China, Fuji, in Japan, and Montreal, in Canada.

Reid said: “We are very happy to collect silver at all of the 2018 FINA Diving World Series.

“Our Canadian opponents did a great job. We watched them diving their final attempt. They absolutely have deserved the win.”

Bronze for Reid and Torrance

Reid also won a bronze in Kazan as she teamed up with Kat Torrance in the women’s 3m synchronised.

They finished on 289.29 points – 4.29 ahead of the fourth-placed Australian duo Esther Qin and Annabelle Smith (285.00).

Reid and Torrance took third spot with their fourth dive – a forward 3.5 somersaults pike – which scored 67.89.

And they held on to the bronze medal after their forward 2½ somersaults with 1 twist pike final dive which scored 62.10.

Abel and Mekussa Citrini Beaulieu of Canada were second with a score of 301.11, while China’s Yani Chang and Tingmao She took gold with 316.20.

Daniel Goodfellow finished sixth in the men’s 3m springboard final on 377.35 points – 159.25 behind China’s Siyi Xie who won the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Reid and Torrance both failed to qualify for the women’s 3m springboard final.

In semi-final A, Reid finished fifth on 308.10, while Torrance was also fifth in semi-final B with a score of  288.90.
