It was triumph for Trafford Metro last time out but who will be the top club in 2023?

Almost 300 clubs will be represented at this year’s GoCardless Swim England Masters National Championships.

As well as individual accolades, the Otter 150 Cup is up for grabs yet again and will be awarded to the club with the highest points tally come the end of the competition.

Last year, Trafford Metro were the top club and were presented with the trophy after a fantastic effort which saw the club set 13 new records.

They broke one world record, three European records and nine British records to finish on top.

The club from Greater Manchester will be looking to retain the title, but face plenty of competition in 2023.

More than 1,500 swimmers will compete at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge between Friday 27 and Sunday 29 October.

As a result, there has been more than 5,000 entries in total across all of the events and kicking off the action will be the Mixed 1500m Freestyle.

Stand-out performances

Trafford Metro swimmer Christopher Knight ensured his club made the perfect start in 2022 after being the stand-out performer in the 1500m last time out.

Knight lowered the British record by more than 20 seconds on his way to a gold medal, setting a time of 16:10.04.

In a competition that sees numerous records shattered throughout the course of the three days, it was East Leeds who set the first world record last year.

The Yorkshire-based club put on an exceptional performance in the 160+ Years Men’s 4x50m Freestyle Team to beat the previous record by just 0.68.

Paul Clemence, Chris Knee, Samuel Lawman and Alistair Crawford were the stars of the show that time around – and three of the four are set to compete again this year.

The GoCardless Swim England Masters National Championships is certainly not one to miss and is also a non-ticketed event, meaning spectators are welcome to attend for free.
