Six more hit British bests as day two begins in style
June 3, 2023Six more British records were broken to start day two as the total of new records went above the 40-mark at the 2023 British Masters Championships.
It was a morning full of fast-paced relay action with both the 4x50m Medley and the Mixed 4x50m Freestyle events.
Four of the records came in the relay competitions with two more coming in the 400m Freestyle competition.
The first three records of the day fell in the Men’s 4x50m Medley Team event.
Warrender Baths’ 240+ Years team set their British record in as many days.
After setting a new national record in the Men’s 4x50m Freestyle relay yesterday the same quartet broke the 4x50m Medley record in this morning’s session.
Jason Kenney, Keith Johnston, Mark Jones and Ian McKay teamed up to set a 2:09.37 to beat the previous record by 2.05.
Dartmoor Darts’ 100+ Years team also got their second record in the event.
Like the Warrender Baths group the same four of Regan Lloyd, Kieran Preston, Matthew Henry and Sonny Trigg took to the pool as they became the new British record holders.
Their time was a 1:45.58 compared to the previous best of 1:48.10.
Basingstoke’s 200+ Years team joined the record books after a phenomenal swim.
The efforts of Oliver Espinasse, David Milburn, Martin Bennell and Spencer Turner beat the previous best by almost five seconds to break a record which had stood since 2009.
They set a new benchmark of 1:55.42 as they became the first team to swim under the two-minute mark.
Holly Booth and Victoria Cunningham were part of another successful Trafford Metro relay team in the Mixed 4x50m Freestyle.
After being part of the British record breaking team in the Mixed 4x200m Freestyle yesterday, they joined forces with Joseph Keeley and James Simpson this morning to set another British best time.
They set a 1:42.64 to beat the old record by just under four seconds.
Edwards gets her third record of the meet
Gateshead & Whickham swimmer Joan Edwards broke her third British record of the Championships in the Women’s 400m Freestyle.
The 65-year-old finished in 5:40.68 to become the new British record holder by almost two seconds.
It gave her the gold medal by 12.55 with an impressive time which was fast enough to medal in each of the two age groups below her.
The success added to Joan’s opening day records in the 800m Freestyle and as part of the clubs Women’s 4x100m 240+ Years team.
Mark Reynolds earnt himself a British record in the Men’s 400m Freestyle.
The Barnet Copthall swimmer broke the record barrier by just over four seconds after he set a time of 4:49.57.
