Swim England and Institute of Swimming launch pilot course for masters coaches

Swim England is working in partnership with the Institute of Swimming to pilot a course aimed specifically at coaches of masters swimmers.

Training programmes and approaches differ greatly between age group swimming and masters swimming, so the course is designed to provide tailored advice to masters coaches.

Rosa Gallop, Club Development Officer for the South East region, said: “There was so much success on the assistant coaches course for masters swimming and requests for the next level.

“I’m proud to work with Bracknell Swimming Club to facilitate this opportunity.”

The course will start online on 19 November, before face-to-face sessions will be held on 7, 11, 12, 21, 25 and 26 January, 2020.

These will be delivered at Bracknell Leisure Centre and are open to coaches across the country who are working with masters swimmers of all ages and abilities.

While there isn’t currently an official masters coaching qualification, it is recommended that all masters coaches have achieved at least a Level 1 Coaching Assistant qualification.

The pilot masters coaching course will be a valuable chance for coaches to learn specific skills that can help both them and their swimmers to improve.
