Basildon and Phoenix Swimming Club in Essex is looking for a Performance Swimming Coach to join their team. Our Club promotes the teaching, development and practice of competitive swimming in the South Essex area. Our Performance Coach aids the club to support and continue to inspire swimmers to reach their goals.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. To effectively deliver an engaging coaching programme for the Performance squad that develops the swimmers, maximises their performance and ensures each athlete reaches their full swimming potential.
  2. Promote and maintain the existing strong performance swimmers within the squads.
  3. To assist other coaches and provide coaching cover where required across all competitive squads.
  4. Undertake all necessary administration to ensure all training is planned, monitored and evaluated.
  5. Where appropriate, work with the Head Coach and Committee to oversee the selection of competitions, such as the National Arena Junior Swimming League, for the squads to compete in across the year to provide an appropriate selection of events and opportunities for all swimmers.
  6. Actively encourage members to take part in competitions at relevant points in training cycles. Attend all appropriate galas and provide swimmers with feedback and guidance to improve. Use the feedback given to guide the planning of future coaching and ensure swimmers meet their personal goals.
  7. Monitor swimmers' progress and assist with swimmer transition within the squad structure (in conjunction with the other squad coaches), communicate with parents and the committee on performance pathways and longer-term squad transition plans.
  8. Where required, assist with the strength and conditioning programme for the competitive squads, under the guidance of our Strength and Conditioning Lead Coach.
  9. In conjunction with other coaches, assist with the development of a pathway for competitive swimming for those individuals who want to pursue swimming at a competitive level.
  10. When available, assist with any UK and/or overseas training camp provision, including attendance and coaching.
  11. In conjunction with the committee develop the club ethos and long-term sustainability.
  12. Follow Health and Safety procedures and the Swim England Child Protection Policy. Be aware and understand the facilities Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and Normal Operating Procedures (NOP).

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes Required

  1. A UKCC Level 2 Coaching qualification/Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate
  2. Prepared to work towards UKCC/Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate
  3. Full enhanced DBS check
  4. Current safeguarding certificate recognised by Swim England (currently Safeguarding and Protecting Children (scUK)
  5. A high level of technical knowledge and understanding of Aquatics GB’s Optimal Athlete Development Framework (OADF).
  6. Willingness to engage with county, regional or national coach development programmes.
  7. Commitment to ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) activity
  8. Entitled to live and work in the UK
  9. Enthusiasm, inspiration and demonstrable innovation through coaching practice
  10. Excellent time management, communication and organisation skills.
