About Chris Mears
After an impressive junior career, Mears underwent life-saving surgery to remove a ruptured spleen at the start of 2009.
Just one year later, Mears made his Commonwealth debut for England in Delhi, finishing fourth in the 3m Synchro alongside Nick Robinson-Baker.
He made his Olympic debut with the same partner at London 2012, finishing fifth in the 3m Synchro, as well as appearing in two World Championship finals in 2011 and 2013.
Mears teamed up with City of Leeds teammate Jack Laugher in 2014 and won his first major senior medal later that year, capturing 3m Synchro gold at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The following season, Mears and Laugher reached the World Championship podium in Kazan, Russia with 3m Synchro bronze.
The pair improved again in 2016, landing the European title in front of a home crowd in London before winning Team GB’s first Olympic diving title at the Rio 2016 Games.
While he finished fourth alongside Laugher at the 2017 World Championships, Mears was back on top of the podium in 2018 as the English pair defended their Commonwealth title on the Gold Coast.
