Free resource aims to recruit new artistic swimming judges

A new free resource which aims to encourage anyone with an interest of artistic swimming to volunteer at events has been launched by Swim England.

The Introduction to Judging – Artistic Swimming resource is the first step on the journey to become a judge.

It has been created to give confidence to those who might not have the basic knowledge of the rules or scoring of the sport and, ultimately, consider taking on a judging course.

The resource covers:

• Roles, events and scoring
• Judging figures
• Judging routines.

Claire Coleman, Swim England Head of Volunteering and Pathways, said: “Technical officials are a key part of the delivery of competitions in our sport and we are continually looking at innovative ways to encourage people to volunteer in this role.

Develop knowledge

“As a national governing body, we recognise that parents want to be part of the sporting environment with their children – but we appreciate it can be a nerve-wracking experience to attend a judging course where you may not have participated in the discipline yourself.

“This free online resource is a great way to develop your knowledge of the discipline and consider taking the next step to becoming a fully qualified judge.

“It is a development that has been led by Sarah Darragh, Swim England National Development Officer for Artistic Swimming, who has worked with members of the Leadership Group to react to feedback we have received about recruiting and engaging volunteers.”

There is no presenter so the resource can be completed at the pace of the participant and as many times as required.
