Great Britain's top young swimmers to battle it out in Sheffield

Top young swimmers from up and down England and the rest of Great Britain are heading to Sheffield for the 2024 Aquatics GB Summer Championships.

Well over 1000 swimmers from more than 200 clubs are expected to compete at what is one of the biggest events on the British Swimming calendar.

The seven-day event will provide a key end-of-season competition opportunity for every athlete involved across a busy programme from 20-26 July, at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

It’s the third year in a row that Sheffield will host the event, following the competitions return since the pandemic, with Ponds Forge also hosting the GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet from Monday 29 July to Saturday 3 August.

The action-packed week will crown Summer Championship medallists in five age categories for both men’s and women’s racing, with para-swimming event winners determined by the British Para-Swimming points under the Multi-Classification competition format.

On Saturday, the distance kick off this year’s Championships with the 1500m Freestyle heat declared winner events. Amongst those that will be in the water in Sheffield is reigning British senior champion at that distance Amelie Blocksidge.

The City of Salford swimmer is just off the back of defending her European Junior Open Water title and will be looking to add more gold to her growing collection in South Yorkshire.

She’ll take on a number of domestic challengers who have been targeting this competition and will desperate to make a statement on the opening day.

After a further six days of exciting racing the competition will conclude with what is set to be some high-paced 4x100m Medley Relay as Great Britain’s future stars prepare us to watch the nation’s best at the Paris Olympic Games from Saturday 27 July.

The prized ‘Club of the Year’ accolade is also up for grabs with Soundwell Swimming Club taking home the title in 2023 ahead of Portsmouth Northsea and Richmond Dales.
