100m Fly Trophies
January 1, 2019There are four 100m Fly trophies, awarded to the fastest senior and junior (U16) swimmers in the 100m Butterfly at the Swim England National Championships.

The John G Hatfield Memorial Trophy is awarded to the fastest male senior swimmer in the 100m Butterfly at the National Winter Championships (25m).
While the Winter Championships are traditionally a short course event, they were held in the long course 50m pool in 2017.
Until 2015, the John G Hatfield Memorial Trophy was awarded to the fastest male senior swimmer in the 100m Butterfly at the ASA National Championships (50m).

History of the John G Hatfield Memorial Trophy
The John G Hatfield Memorial Trophy is given in memory of John ‘Jack’ Hatfield (1893-1965), a quadruple Olympian (1912 1920, 1924, 1928) from Middlesbrough who was Britain’s leading swimmer in this period, as well as an international water polo player.
He was selected for the 1912 Olympics where he won silver medals in 400m and 1500m freestyle in addition to 4x200m relay bronze and in his long career won some 40 ASA titles. He also captained the the England team some 18 years later at the first Empire Games.
In his native town of Middlesbrough, where the family had a well-known sporting outfitters, a square is named in his honour.
Hatfield was still playing water polo for his club team aged 47, having led them to the ASA relay title in 1921, and won the Middlesbrough championship from 1905 until 1934.

The Six Nations Trophy is awarded to the highest ranked male junior swimmer in the 100m Butterfly at the National Winter Championships (25m).
While the Winter Championships are traditionally a short course event, they were held in the long course 50m pool in 2017.
The trophy was originally donated by the BBC for a Six Nations Tournament that took place.
Until 2015, the trophy was awarded to the fastest male swimmer in the 100m Fly at the ASA National Youth Championships (50m).

History of the Kingston Ladies Trophy
Kingston Ladies Swimming Club is one of the oldest English clubs in existence, having been established in 1898 as a competitive speed swimming club in South West London.
Kingston Ladies have enjoyed county, district, national and international success over the past 100 years while they now exist as Surrey’s only synchronised swimming club.
