Relay Trophies
January 1, 2018There are six relay trophies, awarded to the winners of the men’s and women’s 4x100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Relays, as well as the 4x200m Freestyle at the Swim England National Championships.

Captain Webb Memorial BowlThe Captain Webb Memorial Bowl is awarded to the team winning the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the Swim England National Winter Championships (25m).
While the Winter Championships are traditionally a short course event, they were held in the long course 50m pool in 2017.

Croydon Ladies TrophyThe Croydon Ladies Trophy is awarded to the team winning the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the Swim England National Winter Championships (25m).
While the Winter Championships are traditionally a short course event, they were held in the long course 50m pool in 2017.
The trophy was presented to the ASA by Croydon Ladies Swimming Club on the occasion of their diamond jubilee in 1951.

Harold Fern National TrophyThe Harold Fern National Trophy is awarded to the team winning the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay at the Swim England National Championships.
The trophy was allocated to this event for the first time at the 2016 ASA National Winter Meet (25m) while the 2017 National Winter Championships were held over long course 50m.
It was previously awarded for the ‘Top Club Award’ at the ASA National Youth Swimming Championships.

History of the Rob Derbyshire Trophy
John Henry ‘Rob’ Derbyshire competed at four consecutive Olympic Games in 1900, 1906, 1908 and 1912.
He won a gold medal with the British water polo team at the 1900 Olympics in Paris before 4x250m Freestyle Relay bronze at the 1906 Games in Athens and 4x200m Freestyle Relay gold two years later in London.
In 1921, Derbyshire helped found the Penguin Swimming Club, which is now known as West London Penguin Swimming and Water Polo Club.
The Rob Derbyshire Trophy was presented to the ASA by his wife Alice.
Sir George Pragnell TrophyThe Sir George Pragnell Trophy is awarded to the team winning the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay at the Swim England National Winter Championships (25m).

History of the Sir George Pragnell Trophy
Sir George Pragnell became secretary of the Amateur Swimming Association in 1893. He set about writing a list of objectives needed by the ASA to succeed.
It took the ASA 10 years to embrace the changes that were set out in Pragnell’s objectives. He was also elected President of the Association during this time.
The Sir George Pragnell Trophy was originally the Perpetual Challenge Cup for the 500 Yards Championship.
