Annabel Guye-Johnson clinches 100m Breaststroke gold
December 16, 2017Annabel Guye-Johnson won the women’s 100m Breaststroke final on day four of the Swim England National Winter Championships 2017.
The RTW Monson swimmer was just four hundredths of a second ahead of the field. The Swim England Talent Athlete of the Year touched in 1:09.59 to secure her first gold of the competition.
Guye-Johnson said: “It was a very tight one. The first 50 was just trying to get out in my first target time, which I managed to, and then just bring it home.
“Swimming in the outside lane takes the pressure off and means I can swim my own race.
“It was definitely interesting competing against the Canadians as well. It made it more fun.
“This season has been quite short as we got back quite late from the World Juniors, so it was always going to be a tough one but we managed to do what we wanted.”
Second place went to Tatiana Belonogoff of Guildford City with 1:09.63, and the final spot on the podium was taken by Corrie Scott (1:09.74) of Edinburgh Uni.
Rebecca Clynes of City of Leeds took the B final after beating Rachel Taylor of Newcastle and Loughborough Uni’s Laura Kinley. Clynes was almost a second ahead of her nearest rival, touching in 1:10.86.
Tight race in women’s 100m Freestyle
Anna Hopkin of Bath Uni swam a great race in the women’s 100m Freestyle, winning gold with a tenth of a second lead.
The 21-year-old beat Sheffield’s 200m Free champion Ellie Faulkner and Plymouth’s Jessica Jackson, making it to the wall in a PB 54.76.
Hopkin commented: “I had a really good heat swim so I really wanted to go 54.
“My PB was 54.9 so I was really happy to get a PB. I’ve been focusing on my 100m Free so I’m happy it’s paid off.”
Faulkner took silver in 54.88, while Jackson won the final place on the podium with a time of 55.38.
Hatfield win 4x200m Freestyle gold
Hatfield were the first English relay team to the wall in the men’s 4x200m Freestyle relay.
Though they were a couple of second behind the Belgians, they swam a great race to win the gold medal.
The quartet of Harry Constantine, Max Jelfs, James Woodward and Nathan Hughes touched in a collective 7:38.57 for gold.
